Tartu is getting seven more padel courts, all under one roof. They fill the second and third floors of the R82 business and padel building at Tammetoru 11/13 in Tammelinn, and the courts will be run by Padel+, which has signed an operating contract with the developer.
The building covers more than 5,600 square metres across three floors. Shop and office space sits behind the glass facade on the ground floor, with the tile and bathroom showroom Noto as one of the tenants, and the two floors above hold the courts, the service block and a children's play room. The developer KA Varad is putting more than 8 million euros into the project, and Mapri Ehitus is the builder.
The topping-out was held in early July, with Tartu deputy mayor Kertu Vuks, KA Varad board member Ivo Kasak and Mapri Ehitus site manager Ravel Haabma taking down the wreath. Tartu Postimees reported at the time that the doors should open in September if the work stayed on schedule. The Padel+ page for Tartu still gives September 2026 as the opening, and the club's front page says simply that it opens this autumn.
Padel+ currently lists 21 indoor courts at five locations, among them Restate on Peterburi tee in Tallinn and Eventus in Luige. Tartu would be the sixth, and on the operator's own numbers the biggest single addition it has made.
For players in Tartu, the point is less the square metres than the court count in one building. Seven courts side by side is enough to run a full weekend draw without moving matches across the city, which is how most larger tournaments in Tartu have had to work so far. The developer and the operator are both betting that the city has not run out of demand: Mapri's own crew is said to include around fifty padel players, and Lounaeestlane put the number of padel enthusiasts in Estonia at over 50,000.
The Tammetoru project is also not the only one. Tartu Postimees, under a headline calling it a padel boom, reported that a couple of other centres are going up at the same time, including four courts next to the Holm football park at Raadi.
The R82 facade is worth a look when it opens. The architecture comes from HG Arhitektuur, and the front is a grid in black, dark grey and gold, taken from the patterned belt of the Tartu-Maarja parish.
What is still open is the date. A September opening was the plan in July, the operator's site has not moved off September, and anyone booking a court in Tammelinn should check before driving out there. The courts themselves are built.
